01. Who is this course for?
This is a 20 week classroom course for learners who have a few of the very basics, covered in the Beginners – A Taster course or through your own experiences. You will be introduced to a range of basic everyday language that can be used in a variety of settings e. g. holiday, social and work. Using a variety of learning materials such as DVDs, CDs, practical activities, games, books and the internet, the main emphasis will be on learning to speak and understand simple phrases. The sessions will cover how to cope in a variety of situations you might find yourself in when visiting a country where they speak your chosen language. You will also discover a little about the culture, the country and its people.

02. What will I learn?
A range of basic words and phrases covering topics such as: ordering food and drink in cafes, asking for / understanding place names & simple directions, saying where you live, booking accommodation, buying travel tickets, plus other practical skills such as the use of numbers and asking about prices

03. How will I learn?
Your progress and achievements will be recognised and recorded throughout your course in a number of ways. For example: Regular dialogue with your tutor Class activities including group, paired work, role play and language games Spoken and/or written exercises with feedback from your tutor

04. What will I need to bring?
Pen/pencil/paper. A4 folder to store handouts, notes, vocabulary and worksheets. Details of course materials you may wish to purchase will be given at the first session. A dictionary could be useful but is not essential – please talk to your tutor.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
A little basic knowledge of the language e.g. having attended our 8 week Taster course or though independent learning. Willingness to practise words and phrases in between lessons. A small amount of time for self-study outside the class is recommended to progress steadily each week.

06. How will I be assessed?
The course is accredited with ABC Language Awards, through general classroom activities and homework.
