More information about this Course

01. Who is this course for?
Our Have a Go Month tasters are open to everyone aged 19+ across Leicestershire. They are an opportunity for EVERYONE to come along and ‘have a go’ at learning something new! To book your place on one of our Have a Go tasters this June, find the course you want from the list above and click on ‘Enrol’. If there is no ‘Enrol’ option, please click on ‘Enquire' and fill out your details – this will reserve you a place.

02. What will I learn?
Your learning will be focussed on the subject at hand, and tutors will endeavour to include information and support for your next steps in learning, should you wish to develop your skills further.

03. How will I learn?
On each of our Have a Go tasters, you will be guided through the topic by a specialist adult learning tutor. Some tasters will be practical workshops where the tutor will demonstrate key skills and support you as you use them to create something wonderful to take home with you. Some tasters will be guided sessions, where the tutor will guide the group through a series of steps, so you better understand the process. Some of the tasters will be ‘taught’ sessions, where tutors will teach the group skills and your will work together to practice and perfect your understanding of the topic.

04. What will I need to bring?
Most of our Have a Go tasters do not require you to being anything except yourself, however you may wish to bring a pen and some paper to make notes to take home.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
Have a Go tasters are suitable for all levels of skill and experience, and we welcome everyone looking to take their first steps in their learning journeys!

06. How will I be assessed?
Have a Go tasters require no pre-assessment for the course. You will receive verbal feedback from the tutor on your progress throughout the session to help you improve and grow.

07. What could I do after this course?
All of our Have a Go Tasters are designed to give you a ‘flavour’ of the learning opportunities available to you across Leicestershire. At the end of each taster you will have an opportunity to speak to your tutor about continuing your learning; either in that subject or something completely new.

08. How will I be supported in my learning?
We aim to support all learners to succeed. Our tutors will work with all learners to meet individual needs by using a range of resources and teaching methods. When you enrol on your course you will be asked if you have any additional learning needs or disabilities which may affect your learning. This might include physical disabilities, neurodivergent needs (e.g., Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, or dyspraxia, etc.), visual and auditory impairments, or a medical condition which might affect your learning. Your tutor will contact you prior to joining the course to discuss what support can be put in place. We also offer a wide range of assistive technology such as reader pens, screen readers, large print keyboards and screens, alongside in-class resources such as coloured overlays, large-print resources and more.

09. Is help available with course fees?
Have a Go tasters are completely FREE for all learners and the entry requirements are only that you are aged 19+ before the start of the session. Many of our full courses are alos FREE to all learners. For courses that are fee-paying, if you are in receipt of state benefits or have a low income you could be entitled to enrol on your course for FREE, or at a 70% Reduced Fee cost. If your course is accredited (working towards a formal qualification) your course may be FREE if you earn under a certain threshold before deductions. Some exclusions apply, eligibility for fee reduction is subject to change, and you may be required to provide evidence of earnings. If the amount you must pay for your course is over £50, we offer instalment plans which break down the cost of learning into a set number of easy monthly payments. If you need help with the wider costs of study, such as childcare, resources, travel, and transport costs, you may be eligible to have these costs reimbursed through our Discretionary Learner Support Fund. Visit us online for more details, and to download the online application form.
