02. What will I learn?
You’ll build confidence in speaking and listening through conversations and pronunciation practice, improve reading with everyday texts, and develop writing skills for letters, forms, emails, and more—along with spelling, grammar, and punctuation. As you progress, you’ll gain the confidence to use English in real-life situations—and when you’re ready, you can achieve a nationally accredited ESOL qualification to open doors to further study and employment.
|
03. How will I learn?
Learning is practical and interactive. You’ll take part in group activities, discussions, and real-life tasks, supported by experienced tutors who will guide you every step of the way. Online classes use easy-to-access platforms, so you can learn from home with confidence.
|
04. What will I need to bring?
Please bring a notebook, pen, and any learning materials provided by your tutor. If you’re attending an online class, you’ll need a device with internet access (such as a computer, tablet, or laptop) and a quiet space to learn.
|
05. What skills or experience do I need?
None at all! Our courses are designed for beginners and experienced learners alike. Before you start, we’ll meet with you individually to assess your English level and make sure you join the class that’s right for you.
|
06. How will I be assessed?
Your progress will be checked in a supportive way throughout the course. You’ll take part in class activities, speaking and writing tasks, and occasional short tests to see how you’re improving in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This helps us make sure you’re on track and ready for your final ESOL exam when the time comes.
|
07. What could I do after this course?
Completing an ESOL course opens up many opportunities. You could progress to the next ESOL level, move on to Functional Skills English, or join other learning programmes. Many learners use their new English skills to access vocational training, further education, or employment.
Strong English skills can also help you feel more confident in everyday life—whether it’s talking to your doctor, helping your children with school, or meeting new people.
|
08. How will I be supported in my learning?
We’re committed to helping every learner succeed. Our experienced tutors use a variety of resources and teaching methods to meet individual needs. When you enrol, we’ll ask if you have any additional learning needs or disabilities that might affect your learning—such as physical disabilities, neurodivergent needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia), visual or hearing impairments, or medical conditions.
Your tutor will contact you before the course starts to discuss the support available. This could include extra time in exams, a Learning Support Assistant in class, or assistive technology such as reader pens, screen readers, large-print keyboards, and coloured overlays. We also provide adapted resources like large-print materials to make learning accessible and comfortable for everyone.
|
09. Is help available with course fees?
Yes! Many of our courses are FREE for all learners. For fee-paying courses, you may be eligible for free enrolment or a 70% discount if you receive state benefits or have a low income (under £27,976.16 before deductions). If your course is accredited (working towards a formal qualification), it may be FREE if you earn under £25,750 before deductions.
Some exclusions apply, and eligibility can change, so you may need to provide evidence of income. If your course costs more than £50, we offer easy instalment plans to spread the cost.
Need help with other study costs? You may be able to claim support for childcare, travel, resources, and transport through our Discretionary Learner Support Fund. Visit our website for full details and to download the application form.
