01. Who is this course for?
Whether you are inspired by Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca or Lianne Moriarty’s Big Little Lies this genre short course will introduce you to the essentials of writing a thriller.

02. What will I learn?
You will explore the key building blocks of writing a satisfying thriller including plotting complex twists, building suspense, and creating intriguing characters. You will learn the steps to hook your readers from the outset and how to ensure your reader is kept guessing throughout your story.

03. How will I learn?
This online course will cover a different writing topic each week and provide further development activities for learners to work on outside of the lesson. Each learner will be provided with an activity book where they are expected to reflect on their writing practices within their learner diary and individual learning plan. They will have access to all the learning resources provided in class as well as the development activity resources. Learners will receive verbal feedback from your tutor and classmates as well as written feedback from their tutor.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
A Genre Short Course does not require prior experience. An interest in reading and a willingness to write fiction and participate in class activities within a welcoming environment is important.

06. How will I be assessed?
The Learning for Wellbeing curriculum uses formative and summative assessment methods to evaluate learner progress. You will work towards completing learning targets set in class, as well as your own personal development targets. Targets are reviewed at the middle and end of the course. Informal discussions and critiques with the tutor and learners will take place throughout the course, both individually and in groups

07. What could I do after this course?

08. How will I be supported in my learning?
We aim to support all learners to succeed. When you enrol on your course you will be asked if you have any learning difficulties and/or disabilities which may affect your learning. This might include physical disabilities, neurodivergent needs (e.g., Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, or dyspraxia, etc.), visual and auditory impairments, or a medical condition which might affect your learning. Your tutor will contact you prior to joining the course to discuss what support can be put in place.

09. Is help available with course fees?
