01. Who is this course for?
This course is designed to build upon the knowledge from the Next Steps in Novel Writing Course and help individuals who have developed their rough draft. Supporting fledgling writers as they polish their manuscript with a view to sending it to agents with an accompanying query package or embark upon on a self-publishing journey.

02. What will I learn?
Understand that ‘The End’ is just the beginning, and that novels are honed in the rewrite phase. This course will provide the learners with techniques and skills to distance themselves from their first draft and approach the self-editing process with a critical eye. Learners will be introduced to the various types of edits a manuscript can undergo, ranging from developmental to structural. Learners will be supported in creating their synopsis and elevator pitch and be advised on what should be included in their package to a literary agent.

03. How will I learn?
This online course will cover a different writing topic each week and provide further development activities for learners to work on outside of the lesson. Each learner will be provided with an activity book where they are expected to reflect on their writing practices within their learner diary and individual learning plan.
They will have access to all the learning resources provided in class as well as the development activity resources. Learners will receive verbal feedback from your tutor and classmates as well as written feedback from their tutor.

04. What will I need to bring?
This is an online course, you will need access to a laptop or PC, a reliable internet connection with video and audio capabilities or a headset; and be a competent user of IT. Smartphones or tablets are not suitable devices to use when studying this course.
Pen, pencil, paper or notepad and a folder to store your work.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
To get the most out of the Develop your Novel for Publication course learners should ideally have a significant amount of their story drafted to ensure individuals are able to participate with the activities and have completed an introduction to novel writing and the next steps to novel writing course.

06. How will I be assessed?
The Learning for Wellbeing curriculum uses formative and summative assessment methods to evaluate learner progress. You will work towards completing learning targets set in class, as well as your own personal development targets. Targets are reviewed at the middle and end of the course. Informal discussions and critiques with the tutor and learners will take place throughout the course, both individually and in groups.

08. How will I be supported in my learning?
We aim to support all learners to succeed. When you enrol on your course you will be asked if you have any learning difficulties and/or disabilities which may affect your learning. This might include physical disabilities, neurodivergent needs (e.g., Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, or dyspraxia, etc.), visual and auditory impairments, or a medical condition which might affect your learning. Your tutor will contact you prior to joining the course to discuss what support can be put in place.
For some learners this may mean organising extra time in exams or arranging for a Learning Support Assistant to support your learning in class. We also offer a wide range of assistive technology such as reader pens, screen readers, large print keyboards and screens, alongside in-class resources such as coloured overlays, large-print resources and more.

If the amount you must pay for your course is over £50, we offer instalment plans which break down the cost of learning into a set number of easy monthly payments.
