01. Who is this course for?
This course is for learners looking to progress from a beginner to intermediate painter and build on your acrylic knowledge. You will have had experience in painting and want to further your painting skills to gain a sense of achievement and confidence along the way. You will get support and encouragement to explore and experiment with a variety of different more subtle effects in this exciting media.

02. What will I learn?
Topics you will study include Contemporary and Realistic effects, Still Life themes and independent projects. You will learn more about planning a painting, colour mixing and using a variety of conventional and nonconventional brushstrokes and layered applications. This course will require commitment from you to attend regularly and work more independently on a wide range of tasks to develop your skill both at home and in class.

03. How will I learn?
This course combines tutor-led activities with independent learner projects, aimed at a beginner level. Your tutor will use a combination of demonstrations and presentations to guide you through the course content. Visual reference materials will be provided for you to use in your work, initially although your tutor may later ask you to bring in images which you would like to work from too. Your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) sets out both your personal learning aims and the overall learning objectives of your course and allows you, and your tutor, to evaluate your progress and set learning goals.

04. What will I need to bring?
We recommend you bring your own painting surfaces, acrylic paints, brushes, and a mixing palette, a pencil or charcoal, plus note taking materials like paper and pens.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
This course is suitable for beginners who wish to reintroduce creativity back into their life or those with some experience who wish to progress further with their acrylic painting. The learning is aimed to enable you to steadily progress each week, therefore it requires a commitment from you to attend regularly in order to build on what you have learnt.

06. How will I be assessed?
The Learning for Wellbeing curriculum uses formative and summative assessment methods to evaluate learner progress. You will work towards completing learning targets set in class, as well as your own personal development targets. Targets are reviewed at the middle and end of the course. Informal discussions and critiques with the tutor and learners will take place throughout the course, both individually and in groups.
