More information about this Course

01. Who is this course for?
This is a course designed for those with no experience in relief printing but who are interested in learning the basics. It is like lino printing, but cutting into polymer blocks instead.

02. What will I learn?
You will be introduced to the basics of the process of relief printing. You will cut into a polymer sheet to remove areas of it and roll ink onto the raised area left behind to then press onto white card to create an image. You will use black ink, A6 polymer sheets, and basic lino cutters.

03. How will I learn?
Your tutor will use practical demonstrations and presentations to guide you through the workshop content. You will practice skills both independently and with support. Images and other reference materials will be used to support your learning. You will have verbal feedback on your progress and a chance to learn from other learners in your class also. An Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will record in writing the learning objectives of the workshop and a chance to evaluate them.

04. What will I need to bring?
Bring a biro, pencil and an eraser. All other materials will be provided. You may though wish to provide your own image to work from or card to print onto if something specific is wanted. The ink is water-based but can be messy so wear appropriate clothing or bring an apron and handwipes if needed. The workshop is 3 hours long. Bring a drink and snack if you need to.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
You do not need any experience of drawing, but you will need to be able to hold a cutter and direct it with a little force, be happy to have a go and to make mistakes to learn from them, and to work independently.

06. How will I be assessed?
The Learning for Wellbeing curriculum uses formative and summative assessment methods to evaluate learner progress. You will work towards completing learning targets set in class, as well as your own personal development targets. Targets are reviewed at the end of the course. Informal discussions with the tutor and learners will take place throughout the session.

07. What could I do after this course?
You may wish to further develop your skills in printing by looking at other courses run by other institutions. Information on this will be given in class. There are a variety of other creative courses run by the Learning for Wellbeing curriculum so you may wish to try something different. There is a wide range of art, craft, sewing, cookery, dance and creative arts courses for you to continue developing. Courses are available to search on the GoLearn website.
