01. Who is this course for?
This beginner’s course is designed to enable learners to develop their knowledge of acrylic painting and begin to develop their skills in the application of paint and colour mixing to create more exciting colourful pieces. You will have the opportunity for on-going 1:1 discussion to develop your own ideas and create a range of acrylic paintings.

02. What will I learn?
You will be introduced to artwork to inspire and help you develop your ideas and begin to learn practical skills in colour mixing and colour theory. You will make a variety of paintings using a range of paint brushes, tools and marks and learn about using layering techniques and processes, to enable you to feel more confident to explore acrylics yourself. Projects will be carefully aimed at beginners in the form of simple fun tasks. Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to experiment with different effects as you go along and be encouraged to further develop your interest in acrylic painting.

03. How will I learn?
This is a tutor-led, art class. You will learn through class demonstrations and receive 1:1 support from the tutor. Learners will also receive regular verbal and written feedback on their progress. Please avoid taking holidays during courses. Missed lessons can affect funding for adult learning courses.

04. What will I need to bring?
You will need to bring an old shirt or apron and cleaning cloth, a set of acrylics, bristle brushes, palette and stable surface such as canvas thick paper or card to paint on. Please do not wear your best clothes as dried acrylic is hard to remove.

05. What skills or experience do I need?
This is a beginner level course for learners with no prior experience of painting. This course is suitable for complete beginners.

06. How will I be assessed?
The Learning for Wellbeing curriculum uses formative and summative assessment methods to evaluate learner progress. You will work towards completing learning targets set in class, as well as your own personal development targets. Targets are reviewed at the middle and end of the course. Informal discussions and critiques with the tutor and learners will take place throughout the course, both individually and in groups.

07. What could I do after this course?
Upon completing this course, you may wish to enrol on Painting with Acrylics - Beginners Next Steps workshop There are a range of courses to support your wellbeing, so why not try something else from the Learning for Wellbeing curriculum. There is a wide range of art, craft, sewing, cookery, dance and creative arts courses for you to continue developing your skills while improving your wellbeing.

09. Is help available with course fees?
Many of our courses are FREE to all learners. Your course may be FREE if you are unemployed or earn under £26,800 before deductions. If you are in receipt of state benefits or have a low income (£28,733.50 before deductions) you could be entitled to enrol on your course at a 70% reduced fee cost. Some exclusions apply, eligibility for fee reduction is subject to change, and you may be required to provide evidence of earnings. If the amount you must pay for your course is over £50, we offer instalment plans which break down the cost of learning into a set number of easy monthly payments. If you need help with the wider costs of study, such as childcare, resources, travel, and transport costs, you may be eligible to have these costs reimbursed through our Discretionary Learner Support Fund.
