Course Summary
This one-year GCSE Maths course will prepare you for the AQA GCSE Mathematics 8300 qualification.
Whilst on the course, you’ll study: Number; Algebra; Ratio, proportion and rates of change; Geometry and measures; and Probability and Statistics.
At the end of the course, you’ll sit three exams – two calculator and one non-calculator paper. It sounds daunting, but our intensive course is designed to help you cover all topic areas!
You’ll be equipped with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to develop your confidence in applying maths to tackle everyday problems; and to gain a nationally recognized qualification.
You’ll also be well-prepared for more advanced study of maths; to improve your career prospects; or to study for other academic qualifications.
Please note that the course will be taught with the aim of attaining a 4 to 6 grade.
For those wishing to attain grades 7 to 9, more independent learning at home will be expected, with some support from the tutor.
This year, our GCSE classes are offered either in class or online.

Experience/Skills Required To Join This Course
A recent Functional Skills qualification at Level 2 is desirable. You will be booked in for a phone conversation and remote assessment initially with a ‘Skills for Life’ Coordinator. You’ll receive advice about the best course for you, and then you’ll be enrolled onto a suitable course. You do need to attend regularly, for at least 80% of sessions.

What Is The Course About?
Number: decimals, percentages, fractions and ratios
Statistics: data collection and analysis, tables, charts and graphs, probability
Geometry: metric measure, areas, volumes, symmetry, trigonometry
Algebra: formulae, equations, sequences

For The Session(s) You Will Need:
A folder to store handouts and notes and a pen and pencil.
A scientific calculator and geometry equipment and a GCSE course book and/or access to the internet for independent study would be beneficial. For distance/blended learning, you will need at least: a laptop/PC or tablet computer; internet connection and a smartphone.

How Will I Know How I Am Getting On?
Your progress and achievements will be recognized and recorded throughout your course in a number of ways. For example:
Practical tasks;
Written and verbal feedback from your tutor;
Learner diary;
